The Outback lineup features two Boxer engines, though the Outback Wilderness only comes standard with the most potent option. A 2.4-liter turbocharged engine generates 260 horsepower, carrying over from the previous generation. It pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), and at its quickest, should be able to rev up to 60 in well under 6 seconds. While confirmed MPG numbers have not been released, we expect the Outback to achieve a similar fuel economy to the outgoing generation, which achieved 23 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. It should also achieve about the same towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. Added features, such as off-road wheels and reinforced roof rails, make it a favorite among rock climbers, hikers, skiers, and other outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll also find extra black cladding to protect the Outback’s body, particularly around the wheels, which helps it stand out.
