2026 subaru forester wilderness

The 2026 Forester Wilderness gets a redesign a year after the base model Forester gets its redesign, riding higher than previous models thanks to a new platform. As it enters a new generation, the Forester Wilderness adds more ground clearance thanks to that new platform, but also to taller tires, giving it 9.3 inches of total ground clearance. You’ll also find the next-gen Forester Wilderness is a little larger than the outgoing model, adding a half inch in height and width. The powertrain also gets reworked. While output generally stays the same, you get 178 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 rpm, as opposed to 4,400, a noticeable improvement. The Subaru Wilderness Forester also adds a beefier suspension, cementing the Wilderness as Subaru’s pinnacle of off-road driving. We’ll highlight what we know about the next-gen Forester Wilderness, which we expect to have in stock in the Fall of 2025. Visit Bob Moore Subaru OKC from Edmond, Norman or Yukon to explore the current generation Forester before it’s gone!

Forester Wilderness vs. Base Forester

Think of the Wilderness as a shadow lineup within Subaru’s main offering of SUVs. Popular models like the Crosstrek, Outback and Forester all have a trim-topping Wilderness trim level, which equips it with several enhanced performance features, specifically geared towards off-road thrills. Despite all the changes, the Wilderness maintains much of what sets it apart. You’ll still find reinforced roof rails, an anti-glare black decal on the hood and copper accents throughout the Wilderness. You’ll also find a skidplate, all-terrain tires and a drivetrain equipped to assist with low-speed climbing, up to a 40% grade.

2026 Forester Wilderness Redesign

Aesthetically, the Forester Wilderness gets a dramatic update. A new grille and headlight design grace the front of the Forester, while 17-inch matte-black off-road wheels help complete the vibe. The Wilderness is known for black protective cladding throughout the body and it sees a significant redesign across the lower part of the vehicle. The cabin gets the same treatment, with updates to style and functional elements. The interior mixes soft-touch materials with a heavy dose of water-repellent StarTex, while also adding new technology, including an 11.6-inch infotainment screen that integrates wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger.

While we’re still gathering details on all the features the Forester Wilderness will include, we expect the frame to follow the redesigned base Forester, with 29.9 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear, and up to 74,4 cubic feet of total cargo space with the rear row folded.
